TEHRAN A deputy representing the Jewish community in the Iranian Parliament condemned here Saturday the atrocities committed by Zionist Israeli soldiers in Palestinian occupied lands.
"While the Jewish minority in Islamic Iran lives in complete peace and security, Muslim Palestinians have no security and peace in the hands of Zionists," Haroun Yashayaei, who also heads the Presiding Board of the Iranian Jewish Association, said.
"The Jewish community has had an active presence in Iran since the Islamic Revolution and, in spite of the mounting pressure exerted by Zionists to drive them out of Iran, they have remained here with pleasure," he added.
Yashayaei put the total Jewish population in Iran at 30,000 and said, "There is an amicable cooperation between state organizations and the Jewish minority." He said that existing peace and harmony among Jewish and other communities in Iran have aroused the ire of Zionists.
On the education of Jewish children in Iran, he said: "Since Farsi is the main language of Iranian Jews, we have no problems with respect to the education of our children." He said Jews here regard themselves as Iranian and subject to the country's laws and penal codes.
